#EndSARS: Olafeso Condemns Burning of Ondo PDP Secretariat, Wanton Destruction of Properties
Former South West Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olorogun Eddy Olafeso Ph.D has condemned in strong terms the unprovoked attack on peaceful #EndSARS protesters yesterday at the Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State. The world woke up to videos of soldiers shooting at peaceful #EndSARS protesters. In a follow up, thugs went on rampage in Akure and razed the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariats.
Olafeso, in a statement released by Wándé T. Àjàyí, his Media Aide on Wednesday evening, said “While I support the rights of citizens to a peaceful agitation for a reform in the police department, we condemn in strong terms the burning of the Ondo State PDP Secretariat in Akure by thugs under the guise of the #EndSARS protest. The hoodlums also razed the APC Secretariat and other properties in Akure. These miscreants are poised to distract the true intentions of the #EndSARS protesters and should be condemned by all.”
The former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State also condemned the attack on the Lekki Toll Gate peaceful protesters, describing it as “callous and shameful”. “One wonders what the attack hopes to achieve. It is an inalienable right of citizens to peacefully air their grievances and should be tolerated. Using brute force to clamp down on peaceful protesters will backfire and do not augur well for the image of the nation. It is another new low that this APC administration has plunged us.” he said.
Olafeso further asked government to negotiate with the protesters and yield to their demands of a better police force which will benefit all of us.
