The Osun State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Remi Omowaye has shed light on the need for unity of purpose and collaboration among the states to get federal support.
Engineer Omowaye made this known in Akure when he paid a courtesy visit to his Ondo State counterpart, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye in his office.
He explained that the visit was to build on the seed of unity planted at the National Council on Engineering meeting held late last year.“I am here in line with the vision started by my Ondo State counterpart to make us form a united front. We want to synergize and put forward a joint position. That position would be to seek federal support for our infrastructural development. We need special funds to assist us in this regard. Most states have been badly affected by COVD-19. By virtue of the specific assignment we perform, we need to train and retrain our personnel, the engineers so that they can be up to date and deliver optimally. We have agreed that Hon Saka Ogunleye as the coordinator along with the Rivers and Kano States Works Commissioners with others should visit the Minister of Works before the end of January for further discussion about our unity and ways to benefit from the Federal Ministry of Works.”
The Commissioner added that they also wanted to work out ways to make the South West region an indivisible unit for all its people. “The region must come together because we are one family as we speak the same language. We must put aside all religious and political affiliations and forge a common front for our selves.”
The visiting Commissioner urge Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye to bring the South West commissioners together as part of his efforts since he was the one coordinating other commissioners across the nation.
In response, Mr. Saka Ogunleye said the government led by Arakunrin Akeredolu focal point was infrastructural development, hence the construction of world class roads across the 18 local government areas of the state.
He promised the state government support for every move designed to advance unity of the South West region.
Mr Saka informed his guest of his plan to visit his counterpart in Osun and Ekiti states next week as part of his mission for further unity in the region.
