ONDO ASSEMBLY SPEAKER – WHY WE INVITED NURTW MEMBERS
Contrary to media reports making the rounds that Ondo State House of Assembly Complex was invaded by Members of the NURTW.
Earlier Today Monday 7th September 2020 the media was inundated with news of violent attack on Members of the House of Assembly.
It was rumoured that men of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers invaded the Assembly Complex on Igbatoro Road with a view to unleashing terror, preemptive of possible resumption to duty by the recently suspended Members of the House.
Speaker of the House Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David who addressed leadership of the NURTW at a meeting in the Conference Room of the Assembly said the meeting was called to sensitise Members of the Union, the need to embrace peace before, during and after the October 10 gubernatorial election in the state.
According to the Speaker, Members of the House are elected representatives of the people, we stañds for peace and would not negotiate the reigning peace in the state for anything.
Oleyelogun commended the leadership of the Drivers’ Union on their disposition to peace in their interaction with the public and urged them to continue in same manner in order to sustain the reigning peace in the state before, during and after the October 10 governoship election.
Responding, Ondo State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers Mr Jacob Adebo (Idajo) who copiously quoted Bible verses to support his position alluded to the reigning peace during his leadership of the union.
Mr Adebo commended Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for his support for the union since he assumed leadership of the State.
He pledged to ensure that the existing peace in the State must not be truncated through any means before, during and after the upcoming election.
Addressing journalists after the meeting on the suspended Members of the House, the Speaker, Oleyelogun Bamidele David maintained that the case is still in court, adding that the leadership has a great respect for the rule of law and would not hesitate to act accordingly on the path of Justice.
