The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved a reordered budget for the Ondo State Government in the 2021 fiscal year.
A letter of request to that effect, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu had earlier been sent to the House.
In the approval granted by the House, redundant funds were moved from inactive to more active sectors of the economy.
Speaking after submitting the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to the House at plenary on Tuesday, Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Sunday Olajide said the movement of funds to more active MDAs was done without altering the year 2021 budget.
Olajide maintained that budget reordering is a global practice meant to further boost the economy and by extension make life worth living for the people.
He urged other Lawmakers to lend their support in order to further bring democracy dividends to the people.
Speaking before his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David commended members of the Finance and Appropriation Committee for their commitment.
He noted that the reordered budget will further impact meaningfully on the lives of the electorate.
The reordered budget had earlier sailed through first and second reading at plenary before it was committed to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation for scrutiny.
In the meantime, the House has confirmed the appointment of Barrister Jaiyeola Benjamin Taye as substantive Clerk of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
This followed a letter of recommendation to that effect written by the Ondo State House of Assembly Service Commission.
Barrister Jaiyeola with this appointment succeeds Mr Bode Adeyelu who recently retired from service.
In another development, the House on Thursday at plenary received a petition against the Chairman of Ifedore Local Government Engineer Alex Oladimeji.
The petition signed by six of the nine Councilors alleged the Chairman of misdemeanor and acts that negate the oath duly sworn to by the Chairman.
The Councilors requested the House to initiate action to check the excesses of Engineer Oladimeji before he brings the entire council to jeopardy.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David urged members of the Adhoc Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the veracity of the allegations and report back to the House within two weeks.
Meanwhile, the year 2022 budget defence will commence tomorrow at the House of Assembly Complex, Igbatoro road, Akure.
Announcing this at plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker, Rt Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David urged Chairmen of different Committees to lead their MDAs to the defence venue.
The Speaker added that any MDAs that did not allow the House to carry out statutory oversight function on their establishment will not be allowed to partake in the defence.
