Mid Term Report : Lagosians React As Utomi Gives Sanwo-Olu Pass Mark

Lagos residents have continued with their midterm assessment of the two year old administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Reactions have continued to come from high profile residents of the the Centre of Excellence.

A renowned economist who is also a resident of Lagos State,
Professor Pat Utomi has given a thumps-up to the administration of
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his transformational strides that have so far led to the repositioning of Lagos State.

The cerebral economist also expressed happiness with the committed efforts so far made by Lagos State Governor in a little above two years which have evidently led to advancing the state’s development. He also added that this strides by Sanwo-Olu have in turn made Lagos a home to both local and foreign investors.

Although the professor equally enjoined Sanwo-Olu to take advantage of the littoral status of Lagos State to maximally harness its economic growth. Utomi also encouraged the governor to extend his developmental drive to other
communities in the state. In the words of Professor Utomi, “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has done considerably well as Lagos has thrived well under his leadership”.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Lagos based Centre for Public Accountability, Olufemi Lawson has also assessed the performance of Sanwo-Olu’s administration in the last two years.
He said that one could not but laud the commitment and consolidation of the visions of the governor’s predecessors towards transforming Lagos to a mega city, in its true sense. He further commended the approach of Sanwo-Olu’s administration in ensuring that virtually all developmental projects left uncompleted by his predecessor were completed as a matter of priority.

“The Governor’s commitment towards making Lagos economy bigger than he met it is very significant. This is not appreciable to Lagosians and Nigerians alone, but also the international community. Being conscious of the fasts growing population in the state, the administration has focused on improvements in social services such as housing, transportation and security”.

Moreover, Olufemi Lawson also said that there had been a sustained infrastructural developments by Sanwo-Olu’s government, in a manner that they were not concentrated in a particular part of the state. He also noted that developmental projects have been well spread across every district of Lagos State.

Lawson further posited that the Sanwo-Olu administration had reduced crime rates by providing regular logistical support to the Police Force and other security agencies in the state. He likewise spoke on the heavy investment made by the Lagos State government on developmental initiatives for youth which include skills acquisition programmes, educational support, loans and grants.

“Lagos under Governor Sanwo-Olu has been able to maintain its status, as a clean city, as thousands of workers are engaged day and night in cleaning the roads and taking away the dirt. An efficient garbage collection service supports the cleaning efforts.

“Honestly, in as much as there are lots of works to be done, we cannot but express our happiness that things are working for the better, despite the numerous challenges”.

However, Lawson urged Sanwo-Olu to commit the remaining two years of his administration to undertake more ambitious developmental projects such as investment in education, creation of a rail network, bus lanes and a waste collection system. He also advised the governor to continue with the projects of massive road rehabilitation.
