In a bold move, the Alimosho Unified Media (AUM), a consortium of journalists, bloggers, and broadcasters who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alimosho, has voiced its discontent over the recently announced 39-man list of nominees for the Lagos State Executive Council, as released by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu.
Praising the governor’s administration for its commendable achievements in governance, infrastructure development, and citizen welfare, the media group expressed its concern over the representation of Alimosho local government on the nominee list.
“It is with a heavy heart that we address this matter. Alimosho, a local government with a significant population and active democratic participation, played a pivotal role in the success of the last election. Despite our enthusiastic and diligent exercise of civic duty, we are disheartened to observe that our contribution has not been adequately recognized,” the release stated.”
The media group raised eyebrows over the allocation of nominees, highlighting the glaring disparity between Alimosho and Eti-Osa local governments. While Alimosho delivered a substantial total of 83,631 votes to Governor Sanwoolu, Eti-Osa, which garnered 26,239 votes and ranked 19th among the 20 Local Governments in Lagos state, received a staggering 12 nominees in the state Executive Council.
“Governor Sanwoolu, we must ask – are the people of Eti-Osa more ‘Lagosian’ or more aligned with the APC than the people of Alimosho, a local government with 1,545 polling units compared to Eti-Osa’s 725?” the statement continued.
Expressing their dissatisfaction with the current representation, the Alimosho Unified Media lamented the seeming inequality and called upon Governor Sanwoolu to rectify the situation. They emphasized their faith in the governor’s leadership and vision, lauding his contributions to the development of Lagos State.
“While we stand firmly behind your leadership, we believe that addressing this issue will not only acknowledge Alimosho’s vital role in the democratic process but also foster unity and prosperity within our great state,” the media group concluded.
As the controversy unfolds, all eyes remain on Governor Sanwoolu’s response to the Alimosho Unified Media’s call for equitable representation in the Lagos State Executive Council.
