As the 2023 general election draws nearer, it is very pertinent to note that political individuals have been on the move to declare their interest in various political positions.
A look at this is one of the incumbent House of Representatives members, Akinfolarin Mayowa.
Akinfolarin Mayowa is a Nigerian politician at the House of Representatives level. Akinfolarin Mayowa currently serves as the Federal Representative representing Ileoluji Okeigbo/Odigbo constituency in the 9th National Assembly.
Mayowa was elected into the House of Representatives in 2015 after succeeding Adeoba Akintola Johnson.
He was reelected in 2019 for his tremendous and impactful service to his constituency.
In 2022, the lawmaker sponsored a bill that seeks to compel all organised private entities to contribute one percent of their net profit to the fund. In addition, 0.2 percent of total revenue accruing to the federation account will fund the entity.
During the plenary, while presenting the bill, he had said, “the trust fund will provide a sustainable source of funding for NYSC, skill acquisition training and provision of startup capital to corps members, train and retrain the personnel of the NYSC, develop camps, NYSC formations and provide facilities therein.”
Knowing the relevance of the youths, he saw the importance of the fund to finance the monthly allowances need of corps members, and sponsor the community development service of the NYSC.
During his first tenure, he advised the National Agency for Food and Drugs Control (NAFDAC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and other pertinent government agencies to ensure that chemicals are banned in America and Europe were not imported into the country.
Akinfolarin obtained a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1990.
Before his election into the House of Representatives in 2015, he was once a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2011. During this period, he served as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
Some of the bills he has sponsored include the Bitumen Development Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2021; Federal Road Safety Commission Road Marshal Assistants Training School (Est) Bill, 2021; Federal Road Safety Commission Command and Staff College (Est) Bill, 2021; Federal Road Safety Commission Inspectorate Training School (Est) Bill, 2021; Federal Road Safety Commission Academy (Est) Bill, 2021; National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund (Est) Bill, 2021.
As he seeks reelection to the House of Representatives, he is determined to do more.
