Hardwork, elders say distinguishes a person. This is very true of Engr. Gboye Adegbenro, the sterling workaholic whose diligence brought to the limelight and whose performance has taken beyond limits.
Here is an extremely brilliant, dutiful and patriotic Nigerian that deserves to be celebrated on occasion of his birthday. He has touched many lives and given much back to his place of birth without any form of media attention. He can at best be described as an unsung hero and silent helper of destinies.
The dude is known for his excellent deeds, which brighten his lot in the various positions, particularly in public service wherein he was scored high as Commissioner for Works. It’s with this hand working nature of the former commissioner that earned him the honour of the Best Ondo State Public Servant on Works and Infrastructure, and which was not in contest.
The Ilara-Mokin born Engineer, Gboye Adegbenro is one name that is almost synonymous with quality infrastructure in Ondo State. Appointed as a young Commissioner but took it upon himself to achieve successes that were far ahead of his age. Gboye is arguably the youngest person to have occupied the office of Commissioner for Works in Ondo State; but he had recorded huge achievements that placed him far ahead of his predecessors in the office. Adegbenro must obviously be a fulfilled person in view of the fact that he had embarked on infrastructural revolution in Ondo State and recorded hair raising results. Professional imprints of Gboye have been made manifest in all the three senatorial districts of the state.
Gboye Adegbenro is an home bred Engineer that knows his onions and is very much capable of competing with any of his professional colleagues in any part of the world. The achievements of this Civil Engineering graduate of University of Ado-Ekiti in 1997 is a testimony that there still some home products that can do the nation proud.
Born on the 19th day of October in 1970, but his professional contributions to the development and infrastructural upgrading of Ondo state is obviously far beyond the two scores and six years of his earthly sojourn. Primary education of Gboye was at St. Michael Anglican Primary School, Ilara-Mokin where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate in 1982. The Engineering guru had thereafter proceeded to Mokin Comprehensive High School, Ilara-Mokin where he obtained his West African School Certificate in flying colours in 1988. The mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps programme of Engr. Adegbenro was with Eket Local Government of Akwa-Ibom between 1997 and 1998. He went a step further to obtain Masters Degree in Project Management from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Adegbenro job experience began in 1999 as a site Engineer with Unity Planning Associates. He subsequently moved to Glamour Consults Limited in Ibadan where he practiced till year 2000 when he became a Principal Partner at Royal Diadem Consults Limited. He later worked as the Project Manager of ARCOM Nigeria Limited from August, 2003 to July, 2005. Gboye took his career bull by the horn in September, 2005 by becoming the Founder and Principal Partner of AGE Consults Limited. He was having a very flourishing private practice until April, 2009 when he got appointed as a Senior Special Assistant on Infrastructure to the Executive Governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
Gboye is a well grounded and core professional who has proven his mettle in the Engineering profession. He belongs to the leading professional Engineering bodies in Nigeria. He is an active member of Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Also a member of Association of Consulting Engineers of Nigeria and a fellow of Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineer. Engr. Adegbenro is equally a fellow of the Certified Institute of Management and Nigeria Society of Engineers, a body that represents the pinnacle of Engineering professionals in the country.
Enviable achievements of Engr. Adegbenro which stands him out as the Best Ondo State Public Servant on Works and Infrastructure includes but not limited to the under listed: Reconstruction of critical township roads across Ondo State into dual carriage ways. Upgrading of Oba-Adesida-Oyemekun-Ilesha road in Akure into international standard and its completion with state of the arts road furniture; Asphalt overlay of all inherited surface dressed road across Ondo State; Conception and enhancement of aesthetics beauty of Akure, the State capital; Landmark dualization of strategic Fiwasaye -Oba-Ile-Airport road; Landmark dualization of the strategic Arakale road which was accompanied with international standard road furniture; Dualization of Itanla junction to Ademulegun Round-About in Ondo town.
