There have been tussle over the stool of the Olu of Igodan Lisa in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo state. The Akeredolu led government instead of ensuring peaceful conduct of the selection process have rather allowed Amotekun to abuse the chieftaincy law of Ondo State in their bid to impose an Amotekun coordinator as the Olu of Igodan Lisa.
When the community leaders found out about the dirty plot, they wrote a petition to every necessary organ of government to guide against breaking of law and order.
On Saturday, 20th August, 2022, the Amotekun coordinator entered the community with four Amotekun vans and a Toyota Camry all loaded with armed officers shooting sporadically to scare away people.
Residents were able to record them and reported to one Hon. Gbegudu Ololade who is the chairman of the house committee on security in ondo state house of Assembly and also an indigene of Igodan Lisa.
His intervention led to withdrawal of some of the heavily armed Amotekun officers from the community.
Yet, there were rumours of threats for violence from the Amotekun coordinator who declared himself as Olu of Igodan Lisa elect.
The community wrote the police a request for security cover so that people won’t be provoked to take laws into their hands because people from the imposter’s camp were bragging that the governor was backing him.
Following the petition the community sent to the government, the government invited all Igodan Lisa community traditional stakeholders to a meeting with the government team led by the Deputy Governor; Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs; Hon. Akin Sowore and other government functionaries. The government affirmed that only a duly completed official process backed by the state chieftaincy law will produce the Olu of Igodan Lisa Kingdom. The Deputy Governor warn that anyone parading himself as such should desist from such an act.
The next day, the state executive council made press release with respect to the issue. The information commissioner said: *”Some persons have been parading themselves as Olofun of Irele in Irele Local Government and Olu of Igodanlisa in Okitipupa Local Government without the approval of the State Executive Council.*
*“The State Executive Council has decided that such persons be arrested and investigated for their infractions against the State Chieftaincy Law.”* At that point, the residents felt justice would be served.
Yesterday evening, tension rose again across Igodan Lisa over rumours of violent invasion by Amotekun coordinator.
All politicians from the community were informed about the threat and they all promised to reach out to the necessary offices.
The community reported to the Nigerian Police Force Area Command in Okitipupa too.
All these efforts yielded zero result.
Having been denied government security for lives and properties against the rumoured violent invasion, helpless youths and chiefs gathered at the community square to protect their heritage.
Later, the Amotekun coordinator stormed the community square with armed Amotekun officers mixed with thugs and they started shooting sporadically while some were throwing bottles and stones.
The chiefs ran for their lives while some youths stayed back to resist them. The armed Amotekun officers overpowered the youths and had their way and the Amotekun coordinator declared himself king over the helpless people of Igodan Lisa.
The government of Ondo State has so much to explain to the people of Igodan Lisa community in Okitipupa.
