The Federal Lawmaker representing Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency, Rep. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has presented two bills seeking to amend the Minerals and Mining and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Acts.
The two bills passed first reading on Wednesday.
Apart from incorporating colleges of Agriculture in the funding of tertiary institutions through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), the bill to amend the TETFUND act seeks the distribution of funds to the institutions in the ratio of 2:1:1:1 among Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Colleges of Agriculture.
This is inspired by the need to restore the nation’s past glory in the area of agriculture by giving special attention to agriculture-based institutions.
The Act to amend the Minerals and Mining Act will among other things attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) through a well-articulated and coordinated incentive to prospective investors.
It also seeks an aggressive exploration and exploitation of abundant solid minerals to reignite manufacturing industries in creating jobs for youths.
