Yoruba Youth has expressed their support, for the ongoing efforts spearheaded by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams towards ensuring a restoration of peace across the troubled parts of the Southwest states, occasioned by crisis created by clashes between herders and farmers in the region.
The youth spoke through their representative, Mr. Abdulrahman Agoola during a one day discussion organised by the Pan Yoruba Congress on Wednesday, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The meeting which had in attendance the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde also had the Aare Ona Kakanfo, traditional rulers and prominent Yoruba leaders cutting across various socio cultural and political groups, in the region.
The youth in their submission, emphasised on the imperative of leadership, in the ongoing efforts at mobilising the Yoruba people, towards securing Yorubaland and rebuilding its economy. Agboola while speaking, condemned the attempt by some individuals, it described as opportunists, to commercialize the ongoing agitations especially in their disregard, for leadership, in the process. He said the youth recognise the leadership effort of Aare Ona Kakanfo and as such, every well meaning actors in the process, must do so in consultation with Iba Gani Adams and leaders of traditional institutions in the region. He also faulted the approach of Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, wherein he purportedly declared a secession of the Southwest, from Nigeria.
The youth said what is foremost on its table, is the sustained agitations for a restructuring of the country and not any form of violent insurrection being promoted by Sunday Igboho. It also warned that it will not support any form of action that discredit genuine leadership in the pursuit of the interest of Yoruba people, anywhere in the country.
