Tomomewo visits Ilaje flood victims, assures of govt support
Member representing Ilaje Constituency-2 at the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Favour Semilore Tomomewo has assured residents of communities ravaged by flood in Ilaje Local Government area that the state government would soon begin profiling of victims who lost valuables in the natural disaster and make necessary compensations.
Tomomewo gave the assurance during her visit to Mahinredo and other communities where flood wreaked havoc, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The lawmaker who was joined by the Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Environment, Hon. Success Torhukerhijor representing Ese-Odo Constituency, commiserated with the flood victims, some of whom have become homeless after losing properties worth millions of Naira.
While addressing the residents of the affected communities, the lawmakers sympathized with them and assured them of government’s plan to intervene by presenting relief materials to the flood victims.
They also reiterated the state government’s concern on providing adequate succour aimed at alleviating their sufferings.
The lawmakers also visited the Palace of the Onitedo of Mahintedo Kingdom, Oba Seth Fayemi, assured him of the state government’s preparedness to extend support to the victims.
Tomomewo said “Mr. Governor is concerned about your people’s welfare and we shall continue to protect lives and properties of our people.
She told the Monarch “We are here today to sympathize with you, the good people of Mahintedo and its environs mostly, the flood victims and to let you know that the state government actively led by Arakunrin Odunayo Akeredolu Aketi (SAN), cares and for the fact that you are experiencing this today does not make you and your people less Nigerians. It is a circumstance that caused this and we as a government, we are aware of the plight of our people and we are committed to supporting our people in a situation like this”.
Speaking further, they added that it is the responsibility of the government to cater for victims of natural disasters such as flood, man-made disasters and other forms of conflicts.
The Monarch in his response thanked the lawmakers for the gesture and stated that the good people of Mahintedo shall continue to support Aketi’s government and appealed to the state government to embark on construction of concrete channels/ water ways to prevent future occurrence.
