SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT ON ARALEPO/ OSOLO; THE POSITION OF THE DEJI IN – COUNCIL
It is no longer news that the Supreme Court of Nigeria had given its Final judgment in the appeal filed by the duo of Aralepo of isikan and the Osolo of Isolo. The appellants had approached the Supreme Court for the re-enlistment of their case by the apex court after its dismissal in 2015
2 It is important to clarify that the Supreme Court in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justices Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, Mary Ukaego Peter –Odili, Olukayode Ariwoola, Chima Centus Nweze and Amina Adamu Augie on 28th June, 2019 dismissed the appeal of the applicant for lack of merit. The case with suit number SC/267 /2012 had lingered for about 7 years before its final determination which brought the suit to a logical conclusion.
3 The Deji in – council met on 14th August 2019 to do a critical appraisal of the Supreme Court verdict, its far reaching effects and to equally take a position for the implementation of the judgment.
4 Sequel to the Judgment, it is important to make the following clarification and readjustment in the Akure Council of Chiefs;
a. That the duo of Osolo of Isolo and Aralepo of Isikan remains a quarter chiefs in Akure and not a traditional ruler in Akure South Local Government, the position they occupied prior to the litigation.
b. That the duo of Osolo of Isolo and Aralepo of Isikan can no longer have “High Chiefs” in their various quarters under any guise.
c. That the installation of High Chief Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole as the Osolo of Isolo remains valid and subsist while High Chief Olu Ojo will continue to function as the Aralepo of Isikan.
6 It is equally important to state that the duo have been adequately informed of this new development through a separate letter. All necessary government institutions and agencies have been informed of this latest development.
7 It is pertinent to say that His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II is committed to the peace and progress of all quarters in Akure and the entire Kingdom. He remains a father to all with no iota of discrimination.
8. Above all, the desired peace and unity has been achieved as there is no victor, no vanquished.
