Sen. Tolu Odebiyi Sponsors Bill to Establish the Nigerian Institute of Border Studies

The Senator representating Ogun West Senatorial district, Senator Tolu Odebiyi has sponsored a bill at the Senate which seek to establish the Nigerian Institute of Border Studies.

According to the details of the bulk sponsored by the Senator, the institute is proposed to be a degree awarding institution, with the power to admit students and award degrees upon the completion of their statutory academic years and after satisfying the requirements of the council

Also the institute will develop and conduct courses for training of students as well as teachers in the teaching profession, expand the horizon for indigenous research and provide the basis for cooperation, partnership and collaboration with relevant institutions, researchers and stakeholders in Nigeria and beyond.

The Institute is within the statutory supervision of the NUC and the Ministry of Education represented by the Minister who acts in the stead of the President as the visitor to the institute.

Also, the Institute is proposed to be headed by a member of the Academia who shall double as the Academia Board Chairman.

Commending Senator Tolu Odebiyi, the Senator representing Kano South and two time Governor of Kano State, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya appreciated Sen. Odebiyi for bringing up the bill to establish the Nigerian Institute of Border Studies.

In his words, “I Want To Thank My Colleague For This Timely Bill. Borders Constitute A Very Vital Part Of Our Modern Society. Most Of The Problems We Have Today Emerged From Border Misunderstandings.”

” We Have Over 3,000 Entry Points Into This Country And Most Of Them Are Not Mounted By Security Agencies. This Bill Seeking To Establish This Institute Is Coming At A Time When We Are Facing Serious Security Challenges In This Country Especially The Border Challenges.”
