Ondo 2024: I am born to serve, says John Ola Mafo
Former Commissioner and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince John Ola Mafo, has declared his interest in contesting for the governorship ticket of the party in readiness for the 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo State. He made the declaration at Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government, Ondo State.
While speaking at the declaration, he emphasized his readiness to serve the people of Ondo State and explained that he possesses the much-required qualities to serve as their governor. Mafo, who was the running mate of Eyitayo Jegede in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state, stated that he has been living among the people, understanding their needs and how to address the challenges they are facing.
Giving reasons why his party should pick him as its standard-bearer, he said, “I live among you and have been interacting with you over the years, hence I know you, and you know me. It should, therefore, not be too difficult for you to assess and place me into the appropriate category of politicians according to my actions, omissions, reactions, principles, and antecedents over the years.”
He also highlighted his desired qualities, setting him apart from other politicians, positioning him as the best candidate to bring effective change to Ondo State. He urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party to give him the mandate to represent the party as its candidate, stating, “I am born to serve, ready, prepared, endowed, ordained, and available; please send me!”
Some of the top party leaders at the event included Tola Alabere, State Acting Chairman; Elder Amos Fadope, Ondo South Senatorial District Chairman; Chief S.E. Yayu, former Minority Leader, Ondo State House of Assembly; Chief(Mrs) Esther Ebiwonjumi, former State Woman Leader; and Hon.(Alhaji) Nasiru Akinromade, former member, Ondo State House of Assembly.
Other notable leaders at the occasion were Chief Bayo Williams (a.k.a. Longman), Chief Festus Mesewonrun, Hon. Lukeman Adebisi, former Deputy Chairman, Odigbo LG, Hon. Sufficient Uguoji, and Princess Ewa Obebe, former Woman Leader of Ilaje LG. The program was jointly anchored by Rev. Banjo Ikuenogbon and Bar. Henry Ogbemerun, Secretary of Ilaje and Ese-Odo LGAs, respectively.
