Hon. Abiola Peter Makinde, representing Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency of Ondo State has fulfilled more of his electoral promises through the facilitating of an Empowerment Initiative which saw to the donation of various items to members of his constituency.
The event which took place on the 9th of March 2021 at the Ondo Civic Center witnessed a great influx of people who came to benefit from the Mega Empowerment Project.Items such as Automobile Machines, Generators, Grinding Machine, Sewing Machine and Machinery of all sort were given out to hundreds of people of the constituency.
The beneficiaries at the event showered songs of praises on the lawmaker as they applauded him for taking a bold step in empowering his immediate constituency in furtherance of his commitment to the delivery of good governance.
Hon. Makinde through his Mega empowerment initiative aims to give support to those in the lowest pedestal of the society and the marginalized ones in a bid to improve their socio-economic realities.
The lawmaker in an interview with newsmen at the event stated that the move to organize the Mega Empowerment Project is not facilitated or motivated by any political factor, instead he explained that the project is purely done to give back to his constituency.
He also added that the people have been subjected to numerous harsh conditions which came as a result of the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic which necessitated the need for him to set up measures to cushion the effect of the pandemic.
According to him,” I only have one basic and primary duty as a lawmaker and that is to make my people happy; governance is not to acquire personal wealth, it is not to serve a set of people alone, it is a platform to serve everyone”He also stated that he is not only loyal to his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), he is also loyal to his people and he will continue to ensure that they witness more developmental projects.
He also explained that there’s no favouritism or sentiment attached in chosing the beneficiaries of the Empowerment Project, as they were duly chosen without attaching political or religious affiliations.
The Lawmaker also thanked the Executive Governor of Ondo State,Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN for his support in making the project a huge exercise, while also congratulating the Governor on the successful start of his second term tenure, he enjoined the good people of the state to keep supporting him.
Present at the occasion were traditional rulers, government functionaries, highly distinguished personalities among many other people who came to grace the occasion with their presence.
