It is not in doubt that the journey and experience into the league of septuagenarian have been an exciting and remarkable one for Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja, even as June 1 of every calender year usually heralds phenomenal grace, accolades, prayers, joy and cheer for this great unionist, astute politician, seasoned administrator, excellent arbitrator, awesome husband, father and grandfather.
Time and events have revealed that Hon Akinlaja is a force to reckon with in the political milieu not just in Ondo State but in Nigeria. In the legislative circle where he held sway for eight years (between 2011-2019) displayed vibrant and blazing conduct that befits a true democrat and leader who shares in the feelings of the people and identifies with the pains of the moment in the life of the nation.
History is equally replete with the fact that Akinlaja played significant roles in the administration of then Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, between February 2009, to February 2017. Akinlaja, otherwise known as “Ina Njo Ogiri O sa” was a member of Mimiko’s think-tank, whose valuable contributions added tremendous value to both human and material resources of Sunshine State, indeed posterity will judge him right.
Also as a unionist he recorded for himself indelible milestones and accomplishments. He rose to the position of General Secretary of NUPENG and also as Deputy President of NLC, in those meritorious years alongside his principal, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; workers’ rights, welfare and wellbeing were his key priorities so much that he was seen as a thorn in the flesh for employers of labour with obnoxious policies particularly those who subjected workers to precarious working conditions.
Similarly, his emergence as Technical Consultant and Life Parton to PTD Branch of NUPENG has also been a memorable and commendable one without disappointment.
Akinlaja is a true man of integrity who values what is honest, true, noble, trustworthy, kind, and right, ahead of pecuniary gains. A genuine manager of human, financial and material resources, a proven man of honor who would never compromise standard. Akinlaja remains an embodiment of Nigerian entrepreneurial spirit. His focus, endurance and commitment to a prosperous Nigeria have marked him out for greater glory.
Sir, as you mark this 72nd birthday, may the love you have shown to others return to you multiplied. May this birthday mark the beginning of a year filled with happy, sweet, sound health, awesome memories, and shining dreams. May you live to celebrate more beautiful years on earth, and I also wish you a fruitful and purpose filled-year. Congratulations to a cerebral leader of note with skill set.
