Quality Addition To Imminent ZLP Victory
The big political stage is fast getting set for the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State. The election is a three horse race amongst the gubernatorial candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
One of the deputy governorship candidates that is sure to make a major difference and also turn out a quality addition to his party’s ticket is the Ilara-Mokin born, Engr. Gboye Adegbenro. The 49 year old civil engineer definitely posses all the requisite qualities of a deputy governor and he is certain to tilt the electoral table in favor of his political party during the polls.
At the moment, the people of Ifedore Local Government of Ondo State are itching to vote massively for their son, Gboye Adegbenro to actualize the dream of having the very first person from the council as number two citizen of Ondo State. Shortly after his nomination by the ZLP, high level sensitization has been going in all the towns and communities that make up Ifedore Local Government Area.
Aside the popularity and wide acceptance of Gboye Adegbenro within and outside of Ifedore Local Government Area, he is also a renown engineer that has made his mark in Civil Engineering profession. Gboye is so deftly skilled in his profession that his glaring skills caught the attention of the immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko in
year 2010.
Adegbenro has also sufficiently gained the needed political and administrative experiences, following his appointment as a Senior Special Assistant on Infrastructure to Governor Mimiko in April, 2009. He later got promoted to the position of a Special Adviser to Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Infrastructure in January, 2010. Subsequently, Gboye was appointed as Ondo State Commissioner for Works, albeit in an acting capacity. Thereafter, he was appointed and served as Commissioner for Works in a substantive capacity from September 2010 and remained in office until the end of the second term administration of Governor Mimiko on February 24, 2017.
Engr. Adegbenro has gone down in the history of Ondo State as the
as the longest serving Commissioner for works having occupied the position for six year, six month and five days since the state was created in 1976. While serving as Commissioner for Works, Engr. Adegbenro was responsible for coordinating the activities of the Ministry of Works and the agencies under the Ministry. He was also responsible for the strict implementation of government policies and decisions that concerned the ministry.
While in the saddle as the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Adegbenro was also responsible for the creation of annual budget for his areas of responsibility and submitted same to the State Executive for review and approval.
He also undertook the supervision and participation in the development of various road reconstruction programs. He likewise ensured that the State Governor’s goal of improving several roads each year was met. In addition, Adegbenro also handled the indirect supervisory responsibility of the renovations of roads projects in Ondo State that were worth more than one billion naira.
In his capacity as a Senior Special Assistant on Infrastructure to Governor Mimiko, Engr. Adegbenro was responsible for providing executive level advisory services to the Executive Governor on technical infrastructural matters. He was also saddled with the task of liaising with contractors and consultants and was also fully in charge of infrastructural concerns in all government ministries and parastatals.
Truly, Gboye Adegbenro left a legacy of quality and professionally executed projects while he was in office as Ondo State Commissioner for Works. Some of the flagship road projects he midwifed include the re-construction of Owo Township Road, Ondo Township road, Arakale road, Akure and Igbokoda Township roads to dual carriageways. Other road projects supervised to completion by Engr. Adegbenro include the rehabilitation of Irele Township road, Supare Township road and Ikare-Ajowa, Ikare-Ugbe-Iboropa-Ise, Ajagba-Iyasan roads. Above all, other road projects of significant importance supervised by Gboye include the Oba-Adesida-Oyemekun-Ilesha road, Akure was upgraded to international standard with modern road furniture. Also, the dualized Fiwasaye-Oba-Ile-Akure Airport road was equally delivered under the professional supervision of Engr. Gboye Adegbenro.
Thoroughly professional Gboye Adegbenro is undoubtedly a pride of Ilara-Mokin and he is also dynamically versed in his chosen field of civil engineering. He is a Principal Partner of the Lagos based AGE Consults Limited. He provides strategic leadership guidance for the business by creating and implementing the company’s vision and mission. Engr. Adegbenro has also been the Director of AGE Infrastructures Limited from January 2017 till date. He is responsible for leading the company’s wide operations across Nigeria and its overarching growth strategy as well the organizational leadership. He also ensures that commercial activities of the company are conducted in a most consistent manner.
At the early stage of his career, Gboye Adegbenro had worked as a
Project Manager for ARCOM Nigeria Limited from August 2003 to July 2005. He had also worked as a Principal Partner of
Royal Diadem Consults Limited between September 2000 to July 2003. The earliest stage of his career saw him worked as a site engineer for Glamour Consults Limited from January 1999 to September 2000. It is on record that Gboye Adegbenro cut the teeth of his career at Unity Planning Associates where he worked as a
site engineer from January 1999 to December 1999.
Without doubt, Gboye Adegbenro is roundly educated; just as he is a thorough bred professional. The ZLP Deputy Governorship candidate attended Federal University of Technology, Akure from 2014 to 2015 where he bagged Master’s degree in Project Management. Gboye also attended then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti where he obtained Bachelor‘s Degree in civil Engineering in 1997.
He belongs to many professional bodies amongst which are
the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), member of the Association of Consulting Engineer of Nigeria and a Charted Engineer. Adegbenro had earlier bagged the Fellowship of The Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineer (FNICE) and Fellow of the Certified Institute of Management. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), which is the pinnacle of Engineering professions in the country.

Gboye began his primary school education at St. Micheal Anglican Primary School in Ilara-Mokin from 1976 to July 1982 when he obtained his First School Living Certificate. He thereafter proceeded to Mokin Comprehensive High School, Ilara-Mokin where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1988.
As a distinguished professional, Engr. Adegbenro has won quite a number of state and national awards. Notable amongst the honours so far bestowed on Gboye include the Presidential Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Civil Engineering Practice in Nigeria by Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers in 2010; Role Model Award by National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) in 2010; Nigeria’s Top 50 Professionals Awards of Excellence by ThisDay Newspaper in 2011; and 50 Nigerians with Integrity by Guardian Publishing in 2011. Other awards so far won by Gboye Adegbenro also include Excellence Awards in Urban Renewal and Government Projects Management by Federal University of Technology Akure; Best Commissioner for Infrastructure in the South West by the Federal House of Representative Committee on Inter-governmental Affairs and the Best Commissioner for Works in Nigeria by the Federal Information Chapel, Abuja (Nigeria Union of Journalist), among other honours.
Realistically, if the wind of popularity and acceptability blowing across the Sunshine State in favor of the governorship and the deputy governorship candidates of the ZLP is to be reckoned with, Engr. Gboye Adegbenro is therefore only a few months away from becoming the next deputy governor of Ondo State.
