Deplorable State of Ore-Okitipupa-Igbokoda Roads: A Call for Urgent State Action

Uncategorized

Whilst Ore-Okitipupa road is the major road which connects Odigbo LG to the remaining 4 Lags in Ondo South, namely; Irele, Okitipupa, Ilaje and Ese-Odo LGs, Okitipupa-Igbokoda road is the only road that links the coastal area of Ondo State to the main land.

These roads have gradually gone from bad to worse due to lack of proper maintenance and rehabilitation.

The deplorable state of these roads is making transportation difficult for the people of the area, particularly traders even as we approach the festive period.

Though we are not unaware of the enormous responsibility before the state government and the financial crisis affecting all three tiers of government, however, it is pertinent to note that these roads are very important ones as they connect communities that contributes significantly to the state government purse every year as revenue from Oil derivations, taxes and levies on fish, crayfish, raffia, timber etc.

These 5 LGs in Ondo South contributes about 150Billion naira in Internally Generated Revenue and Oil derivations annually and so they deserve the attention of the State Government in renovation and maintenance.

We therefore call on the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to as a matter of urgency set machinery in motion to ameliorate the suffering of the people by fixing these roads.
