Declare state of emergency on insecurity in Ondo North – Ondo Assembly candidate, Adewale Orogun tells Akeredolu

Ondo State House of Assembly Candidate for Akoko North East Constituency on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hon. Adewale Orogun has called on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN to urgently declare a state of emergency on insecurity in Ondo North Senatorial District of the state.


Orogun in an open letter to the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu noted that the high level of insecurity in Ondo North Senatorial District is worrisome saying that it was rather unfortunate that the people of the area are moving around in their own towns and villages with fear.

He said: “I believe that there is a need for something new; a different initiative especially on how to protect our people in Ondo North.

“Almost all incidents of abducting of people in the state happen in Ondo North Senatorial District and we all know how our people in the area are living in Perpetual fear.

According to him, we see how Some worshipper who gathered at St. Francis catholic church Owo were massacred in scores in June this year and also how gunmen Kidnapped a traditional head of Iku Quarters, the Oniku of Iku Quarters in Ikare-Akoko High chief Mukaila Bello, Yeye Gbafinro, Former House of assembly candidate in Akoko North-East(Hon Niran Adeyemo), and a community leader Mr Bashiru Adekile at Ago-Panu in Owo local government axis in August.

“Few week ago, there was tension on whereabouts of the abducted Monarch the Oloso of Oso Ajowa Akoko in Akoko Northwest Local Government Oba Clement Omoola Jimoh as N100 Million ransom was demanded by the abductors before he was released, Two night guards were also murdered in cold blood sometimes this month in Ikare.

‘Just few days ago, unknown suspected kidnappers allegedly killed a popular cream dealer(Augustine Okoye) in Ugbe after been abducted with his wife on Isua-Ise Akoko road despite undisclosed amount of ransome been collected from him.

“We are in worrisome state in Ondo North especially in Akoko land and is a clear indication that nobody is safe in the area any more.

“I am calling on Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, the grand commander of Amotekun to take all necessary steps to checkmate the high rate of general insecurity in the area by declaring state of emergency on the issue. Our people need to move freely without any kind of phobia and go about their daily needs.

“Let me say here is that the primary responsibility of the government is to safeguard lives and properties of the citizens through the various security agencies in the country. How long would we continue to face this kind of situation? I think the security agencies need to wake up from their slumber and rise to the challenge”, Orogun advised
