Concerned Ex-Lawmakers Urge Ondo State House of Assembly to Preserve Integrity Amidst Impeachment Allegations

In a recent press conference, Concerned All Progressives Congress Ex-Lawmakers in Ondo State have called on the Ondo State House of Assembly to uphold the sanctity and integrity of the legislative body.

They expressed concern over ongoing impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor, H.E. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, and urged the Assembly to prioritize their legislative functions.

The group highlighted the importance of separation of powers and reminded the current members of the Assembly of their constitutional roles, which include lawmaking, representation, and oversight functions. They criticized the focus on impeachment proceedings, considering the Assembly’s relatively short tenure, with over 70% of members being newcomers.

The Ex-Lawmakers advised the Assembly to avoid media trials of the Deputy Governor and other appointees marked for impeachment, emphasizing that allegations should be supported by evidence.

They called on the Assembly to address more pressing issues facing the state, such as local council development authority crises and the use of palliative funds.

The Concerned Ex-Lawmakers cautioned against setting a bad precedent with the impeachment and urged the Assembly to consider the long-term consequences of their actions.
