The Ondo Redemption Front (ORF) express our deep concern and disappointment over the continued inefficiency and lack of Leadership, being demonstrated by the Ondo State acting Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, since the absence of the Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu from the state. It is with great disappointment that we observe a lack of effective leadership and a near total collapse of governance, in Ondo State, since the transmission of Power to Mr Aiyedatiwa, by Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who has remained absent in office due to the condition of his Health.

Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa has continued to show his lack of direction and leadership, during a time when the state needs it the most.

The absence of Governor Akeredolu from the State, and the transmission of power to his Deputy, Mr Aiyedatiwa, should not translate into a vacuum of leadership, as currently being experienced in Ondo State.

However, recent events in Ondo State, have shown a significant gap in this regard.

We have witnessed huge disappointments in decision-making, a lack of clear communication on pressing issues, and an overall sense of uncertainty among the citizens of Ondo State. This situation not only hampers the state’s progress but also erodes the public’s confidence in the leadership’s ability to govern effectively.

As a civic group committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance, we call upon the Ondo State House of Assembly, to immediately move in, and rescue Ondo State, from the state of near commatose, as we cannot in our clear conscience, continue to witness a leading state like Ondo, existing without a functional leadership, at this very crucial moment of the struggle, for the survival of our nation, Nigeria.

We call on the Ondo State House of Assembly, to take immediate and effective action to address this situation. Key to this is the invitation of the Acting Governor to give an account of the state of the state. This is long overdue!

While hoping that the State is rejigged, we challenge the Ondo State House of Assembly to closely monitor the situation and hold the Deputy Governor accountable for his actions during this period of absence of Mr. Akeredolu, that he has acted so far.

The people of Ondo State deserve leadership that is responsive, responsible, and capable of upholding the state’s interests.

We believe that a well-functioning government is crucial for the prosperity and well-being of the people, and any shortcomings in leadership cannot be taken lightly.
As a group, we are uncomfortable with the running of the local governments in Ondo state and demand accountability of the money accruable to the state and how it had been expended by the so-called JAC.

We note for a legal challenge, the purported creation of Local Council Development Authorities LCDAs in the state while we are worried about the funding of these created LCDAs and their political leadership.

Of note also is the abandonment of the Cocoa Chocolate factory of the state upon which billions of Naira of our collective patrimony has been expended. That factory is now overgrown with grasses with no sign of life and we are concerned about the waste of public funds on the hitherto money-making venture as promised by the state government.

We demand a probe of all activities and money expended on that project.

In conclusion, we emphasize that effective governance should not be compromised under any circumstances. We remain vigilant and committed to holding leaders accountable for their actions and decisions, particularly during critical periods. We hope that our concerns are addressed promptly, and we look forward to witnessing positive changes in the governance of Ondo State.

Long live the Sunshine State.

Olufemi Lawson
General Secretary,
Ondo Redemption Front ORF
