APC Members Berate Akeredolu For Promoting Owo Superiority Agenda
Concerned members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State have berated Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his clannish agenda of promoting Owo superiority. The APC members also accused the governor of ruling like the Governor of Owo rather than seeing himself as the governor of all the 18 Local Government Areas making up the Sunshine State.
All members of APC without any exception that spoke with our correspondents on the recent re-appointment of Chief Segun Ojo who is an indigene of Emure in Owo Local Government into the Board of Oodu Investment Company were unanimous in their condemnation of Governor Akeredolu for his Owo superiority agenda.
A female member of APC from Akure South Local Government who craved anonymity was unsparing in her condemnation of Akeredolu for giving virtually all the federal appointments and key state appointments to the people of Owo.
She said that it was most unexpected of a sitting governor to have chosen to carelessly promote a divisive agenda that is capable of causing wicked distrust amongst all the tribes in Ondo State.
“This agenda of promoting Owo superiority agenda by Akeredolu has gotten to a very worrisome level. It is as shameful as condemnable that the governor has given all the federal appointments slots given to Ondo State to his people in Owo. No governor in the history of Ondo State has ever pushed this kind of preposterous agenda,” said the female APC member.
While also condemning the Owo superiority agenda by Akeredolu, a prominent member of the APC from Akoko who equally pleaded anonymity was emphatic in his condemnation of the governor’s action. He said things have now gotten to a level where Akeredolu can afford to throw caution to the wind by addressing as fools the people in the remaining 17 local governments of Ondo State to their faces.
According to him, “This Owo superiority agenda being pushed by Akeredolu is not only vexatious, but it is also highly inimical the unity and oneness of the Sunshine State. Akeredolu needs to tell the state why only his Owo people can be trusted with all the strategic state appointments and all the federal appointments that are not statutorily tied to any mandate area. Akeredolu may have even appointed his Owo kinsmen as NDDC Commissioner and the helmsman of OSOPADEC if not for the obvious constitutional restraints. This is so bad for a governor that is seeking a second term”.
Similarly, another staunch member of APC from Okitipupa who also pleaded anonymity was unequivocal in what he described as non- strategic move by Akeredolu to have placed his Owo people above other tribes in Ondo State. He added that Akeredolu appeared to have forgotten that he was elected to govern Ondo State as a whole and not to unfairly promote the sole interest of Owo above all other interests.
“It is quite unfortunate that all the appointed Chiefs in the government house are from Owo. He has chosen to extend the tenure of the Head of Service who is from Owo. It is equally unfair that all the federal appointees so far chosen from Ondo State apart from the minister are from Owo. Now, the governor has yet re-appointed his aged kinsman from Owo into the Board of Oodua Company. He is actually making the job of his re-election difficult for us on a daily basis. I wonder how Akeredolu expects the people of other location governments that he can’t trust with appointments to yet again trust him with their votes in October”.
