Following reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has reportedly detained the Clerk of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr. Bode Adeyelu and three others for alleged N2.4 million seminar fraud.
The Chairman House Committee on Information, Hon. Gbenga Omole has assured members of the general public that there is nothing to worry about as it’s just a minor misunderstanding, one which will soon be clarified by the House and the Anti Graft Agency.
He said this whole addressing the report that the Speaker, House of Assembly, Hon. Bamidele Ololeyelogun was invited for questioning by the agency.
According to the information gotten from him, nothing of such was happened, although he confirmed that some Assembly Workers were invited by the agency
Among those detained with Adeyelu are two civil servants attached to the Assembly; Olusegun Kayode and Afolabi O. J. Also, the lawmaker representing Akoko South West II in the House, Bankole Felemu.
The alleged fraud being investigated by the EFCC was said to have been committed in 2019, when the lawmakers were supposed to have attended a two-day seminar organised by the National Productivity Centre, Lagos.
It was also alleged that, it was discovered that there was no such seminar organised, while the money released by the state Ministry of Finance amounting to N2.4million, was alleged to have gone into private pockets
Hon. Gbenga Omole also stated that the House of Assembly will be formally responding to the issue on Monday 15th 2021
