-Grants leave to inspect election materials with INEC
The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has granted leave to the House of Representatives candidate for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu in the bye-election in Akure South/North Federal Constituency to inspect all materials used during the election.
Olumuyiwa Adu had recently challenged the victory of the Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mayokun Lawson Alade at the Election Petition Tribunal in Akure.
Adu, candidate of PDP narrowly lost the poll with 1,812 votes to the winner and candidate of All Progressives Congress, (APC), Mayokun Lawson Alade in an election believed to be heavily induced by vote buying and other bridges of provisions of 2010 Electoral Act in the last bye-election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mayokun Lawson Alade winner (APC) of the poll to replace the former occupier of the seat, late Adedayo Omolafe, popularly known as ‘Expensive’ who died in September 2021.
However, Adu had rejected the results of the election, saying he will reclaim his “stolen mandate” at the Election Petition Tribunal.
“I am confident that PDP will reclaim the stolen mandate at the court with the volume of evidences we made available to the tribunal which are enough to return me as the right winner of the election,” Adu said.
He further enjoined party members and his supporters not to be discouraged with the outcome of the election; as he is confident of getting justice to redeem his stolen mandate at the Tribunal.
Also, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu Campaign Organisation had rejected the result of the House of Representatives bye-election, saying it was fraught with irregularities.
The campaign organisation threw it weight behind the PDP candidate and the legal action taken to reclaim the mandate, promising not to leave any stone unturned to get justice.
