22 APC Senators meets Buhari, shelve defection plan

Senators serving under the All Progressive Congress makes U-turn over defection plan after meeting with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), today in Abuja.

According to Channels TV report, the 22 Senators who had vowed to defect from the APC over the outcome of the primaries in their states has made new commitment to the party.

The leader of the delegate, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, said the lawmakers felt disenfranchised by the process, but their meeting with the President convinced them otherwise.

Buhari, who speaking at the meeting urged the Senators to exercise restraint in their decision to defect from the party, adding that the defections would be a threat to the party’s majority in the National Assembly.

After the meeting, Kalu said the aggrieved Senators would no longer pursue defection from the APC.

“Earlier this afternoon, I led the 22 aggrieved Senators and members of the All Progressive Congress to President Muhammad Buhari,GCFR,” Kalu, the Chief Whip of the ninth senate, said in a statement.

“Our meeting with Mr President was successful and the issue of decamping from our party has been laid to rest.”
