A Constitutional lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Dr. Tunji Abayomi has berated the leader of Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo for using the group to advance personal interest saying he needs to be interrogated.

Abayomi in a statement issued in Akure, the Ondo State capital today titled: “The way Things Are: PA. ADEBANJO AND YORUBA INTEREST” stated that Immediately you disagree with the principles and tenets of the platform you should decently disengage from it.

The elder statemman. Pa. Ayo Adebanjo had recently declared support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

According to him, Pa. Ayo Adebanjo who purportedly speaks for Afenifere, a social cultural group created solely to further the interests of Yoruba Nation when Ibiobio and Igbo created theirs some 80 years ago, needs to be interrogated by the good people of the land about his interest in 2023 presidential election.

His words: “There are five (5) Yoruba eminent citizens who are vying for the same office via the election slated for February, 2023.

They include Sowore-AAC, Kola Abiola-PRP, Tinubu-APC, Adenuga-BP and Adebayo-SDP.

“Afenifere, for emphasis, is created to fight for the interests of the Yoruba among other ethnic groups making up Nigeria. Afenifere can collaborate with other tribe(s) ONLY when Yoruba natives (interests) are not going to be compromised in the subject matter”‘ he said

Abayomi who is also a Chieftain of All Progressives Congress noted that “Honestly I can’t still reconcile why Pa. Adebanjo is using the same platform of Afenifere to openly work for a candidate from other tribe when there are Yoruba men contesting for the same election!

“He did not stop at that, he is fighting against his seniors in Afenifere group for supporting a Yoruba candidate, insisting that they should not support Yoruba candidate!

“Afenifere remains a pan Yoruba platform, no moderate option about this, if you are ashamed of being called bigot you don’t go near such platform as its leader,” Abayomi added

Ends.
