The pardon of Dariye and Nyame as made Buhari/APC fight against corruption a big joke”
Both Ex-governor Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame were sentenced for looting N1.16b and N1.66 respectively. It took 11 years and several millions of Naira for their prosecution by the EFCC which was started by the PDP administration.
Mr Dariye was sentenced to 10 years for criminal breach of trust during his tenure as governor of Plateau State between 1999 and 2007. He was sentenced in 2018. The Supreme Court upheld his sentence in 2021.
Mr Jolly Nyame was sentenced to 12 years for misappropriation of public funds while he was the governor of Taraba State between 1999 and 2007. He was sentenced in May 30th 2018 while the supreme Court upheld his sentence in 2020.
The pardon means that they can hold offices and run for elections. It has turned the Buhari/APC government anti-corruption war into a big joke. The Buhari/ APC government are setting a bad example for the younger generation. This case went from the High Court to the Supreme Court and now the convicts are being pardoned. It will demoralise the judges, the investigators and the prosecutors. It sends a bad message to the youth and Nigerians as a whole that all they need to do is enter into Politics loot very well and your sins will be pardoned.
There are speculations that this goverment having failed might want to use them in their various States to prosecute the 2023 Elections.
