Barely a month after a 22-year-old Part 4 University undergraduate, Favour Daley-Oladele, was gruesomely murdered for ritual by her “lover” in Ikoyi-Ile, Osun State, a similar incident almost played out for another 22-year-old graduate, who narrowly escaped death by divine intervention.

The victim (name withheld), had alleged in her complaint to the police at the Redeemed Camp Division in Mowe, Ogun State, that she was lured by one Babayemi Olamide, a 25-year-old cobbler, to his Greenland Estate residence, forced her to bed, soaked her dress in water, video-recorded her nudity and shared to his friends.

Narrating how she fell into the suspect’s snare, the Micro-Biology graduate victim said, as “an Area Brother” (with whom she lived in the same neighborhood), she, some months back, gave the sum of N18,000 to him to help purchase a good handset, to avoid being exploited by the seller, in case she went to buy it herself.

According to the victim, after several failed efforts of pleadings to either refund the said money or give her the handset, Babayemi, on January 2, 2020 called and lured her to come for the phone, only to cause her mental and psychological trauma.

Her words: “On getting to his house, he forcefully had carnal knowledge of me. As if that was not enough an assault, Babayemi went further to soak my clothes in water and yet, committed another grievous crime of recording my nakedness on his phone and began to share to his friends.

“Suspecting that I might report his wicked act to the police, Babayemi attempted to snuff life out of me, but saved by the call he received from his mother, asking him to meet her at the Estate gate, an opportunity I utilized to escape” the victim said.

However, following his arrest, Babayemi owned up to committing the offenses which he claimed was intentional.

The reason he gave was that the victim was his long-time girlfriend who, after attaining her degree, felt he was no longer her match and decided to call it quit with him.

As to why he resorted to video-record her nudity and forwarded to his friends, Babayemi told the police that it was aimed at humiliating her to shying away from reporting the matter to the police.

Confirming the incident to Crime Puzzle, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a press release made available to our reporter that, the suspect, after committing the crime, bolted but was nabbed two days after.

Oyeyemi said: “On the strength of the report made by victim, the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) of the Station, CSP Chris Amanyi, mobilized his detectives to go after the suspect who had then taken to his heels”.

Oyeyemi further stated that, getting to know of the evil perpetrated by her son and, in an apparent condemnation of it, his mother fished him out of hiding and handed him over to the police on January 4, 2020.
