Opinion On Abuja Peace Meeting
Triangle News Media
There is no doubt that peace had already been brokered between Ondo State House of Assembly and the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa by President Tinubu and the national Chairman of the All Progressive Congress.
However, expectes certain pronouncements were not made at the meeting; just as certain things were left undone and this may eventually make peace a mirage in the politics of Ondo State.
Agreed that impeachment of the deputy governor will be halted forthwith; but, will Aiyedatiwa be pleased to remain a mere duputy without the constitutionally stipulated powers to carry out the functions of the office of the governor in the continuous absence of his principal ?
Another pertinent question is that in the event that power is transferred to Aiyedatiwa, will he be willing to work with appointees that have openly pronounced him a traitor and sworn enemy ?
Also in the event of power being transferred to Aiyedatiwa, can he afford to retain and services appointees that have cases to answer on unapproved spending of #7.3billion and also made their gubernatorial ambitions known ?
Realistically, political tsunami must take place in Ondo State before Aiyedatiwa could ever think of functioning seamlessly as an Acting Governor; let alone recording any achievement.
Until and unless the dictates of the 1999 constitution as ammemded is complied with by members of Ondo State House of Assembly, peace may remain elusive in the polity of the Sunshine State in view of the present realities.
