Minimum Wage: Erstwhile Council Boss, Otunba Olaide Osifeso Calls for Constructive Engagement and Peaceful Resolution

Ijebu North, Nigeria – June 3, 2024 – Otunba Olaide Emiola Osifeso, the former Council Boss of Ijebu North local government, has issued a compelling call for the Federal Government and Labor Unions to prioritize constructive engagement and pursue a peaceful resolution to the ongoing national minimum wage dispute.
In emphasizing the critical need for dialogue and understanding between the concerned parties, Otunba Olaide highlighted the potentially damaging effects an industrial action could have on the populace, particularly the ordinary Nigerians who would bear the brunt of such actions.
Having served as the local government chairman of Ijebu North between 2012 and 2015, Otunba Olaide reiterates his stance on fostering cooperation and mutual respect in finding a resolution to the minimum wage issue. In a press statement released earlier today, he underlined the importance of avoiding actions that could escalate tensions and lead to unnecessary hardship for the citizens. The statement read;
“Urgent Call for Dialogue: Avoiding Industrial Action
As Nigerian Labour Unions embark on an indefinite strike starting today, June 3, 2024, I urge both the Federal Government and Labour Unions to reconsider the timing and implications of this action.
“The demand for salary increments is legitimate, but the strike’s economic consequences will disproportionately affect the already struggling citizenry. In a country facing economic hardship, a strike will exacerbate the situation, causing untold suffering for ordinary Nigerians.
“I implore both parties to continue their negotiations and explore alternative solutions that address the unions’ demands without resorting to industrial action. Let us prioritize dialogue, compromise, and the well-being of all Nigerians.
Let us work together to find a solution that benefits both the government and the labour force, ultimately promoting economic stability and growth for our great nation.
