The rainstorms that ravaged Ikare-Akoko town of Ondo State on Sunday this week has left a very sour taste in our mouths. Not less than one hundred and fifty houses had their roofs completely blown off, while others collapsed under the torrential rainfall. Even the palaces of Olukare of Ikare and the Owa-Ale of Ikare were not spared. Three persons also lost their lives to this disaster.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter commiserates with the families of the victims as well as families of those who paid the supreme price as a result of this unfortunate event.
Our party calls on the Ondo State Government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) to immediately rise to the occasion and provide succour for the victims.
Owing to the extent of the damage, a panel of enquiry should also be set up to unravel the major cause of this kind of calamity, with a view to averting a repeat of such occurrence in future.
