Half a century is definitely a long time in the life of any mortal and it surely calls for celebration of various forms. It however aphoristic that the heyday of a woman’s life is the shady side of fifty. It has also been deeply posited that forty is the old age of youth while same fifty years is the youth of old age.
Birthday may have been asserted to be the first day of another 365 day journey around the sun, but this
means a lot more in the fifty years existence of Engr. Dorcas Oluwawemimo Akinwumi. To the Owo born engineer, her attained golden age represents two and a half score years of God’s faithfulness and unfailing love in all areas of life.
Fifty years of existence simply translates to 18,263 days of God’s unfailing protection over evils at infancy and adulthood. As a matter of fact, it is only a set of mortals
that are very deep in thoughts would deem it necessary to give commensurate thanking to the Almighty God for successive victory recorded in half a century. Thoughtful enough, incurable appreciation of God’s faithfulness has become the attitude of Dorcas Akinwumi.
The gloriously grateful female engineer was born some fifty years ago to the family of Reverend Manoah Adeniran Fabuluje and Mrs. Beatrice Ibirinade Fabuluje in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. She had her primary school education at St. Peter’s C.A.C. Primary School in Owo, before proceeding to to Owo High School and subsequently to New Church Grammar School, Owo, where she completed her secondary school educationin 1988. Dorcas later moved to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) where she studied Civil Engineering and graduated in
- Upon graduation as a Civil Engineer, Dorcas had her mandatory one year NYSC programme at Mada Hills Secondary School at Akwanga in Nasarawa State. She later bagged Masters in Civil Engineering from FUTA in 2011 and already working on her Ph.D at the Civil Engineering department of same Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Engr Dorcas akinwumi has had career stint with different Civil Engineering Consultancy firms within and outside of Ondo State.
She had equally served as External Moderator to the Civil Engineering Departments of tertiary institutions located within and outside of the Sunshine State. The hardworking
female engineer joined Ondo State Civil Service in 2010 and has thus risen to the position of Deputy Chief Resident Engineer at the Project office of Ondo State Ministry
of Lands and infrastructure.
It is however worthy of note that
Engr. Dorcas Akinwumi is the very first female engineer in the history of Ondo State to have attained
the position of Deputy Chief Resident Engineer (DCRE) in the
Ministry of Lands and infrastructure.
Mrs Akinwumi was elected and served as the Vice Chairman of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Akure chapter between 2018 and 2020. She also currently holds sway as the chairman of APWEN, Akure chapter. She is equally the first female engineer to get conferred with the Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers in Akure chapter.
Oluwawemimi is also the Matron of
the FUTA Branch of Civil Engineering Students’ Association.
Engr. Dorcas Akinwumi belongs to quite a number of professional Engineering association and bodies. She is a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and
also a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE). She is equally a member of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) and likewise a Fellow of Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE).
Quinquagenarian Dorcas Akinwumi strongly believes that a female child could equally excel in fields that are traditionally conceded to the male folks. She is a devout Christian and already an ordained Deaconess in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Deaconess Akinwumi is happily married to Ademola Akinwumi, who works as a senior officer with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). The evidently blissful marriage is blessed with healthy and responsible children.
The Akure Chapter Chairman of APWEN likes to unwind by reading, meeting with people and creating fun. She is loudly returning her appreciation to the Almighty God for the grace given to her to celebrate 50 years of achievements and impacts laden existence in good health, sound mind, service to
God and humanity.
