A Community Leader in Akoko: Oladare Amuda has commiserated with the Ondo State Government and families of those who lost their lives through the recent motor mishap that occurred in Akungba Akoko. While speaking with journalists in Akure, Ola Amuda described the accident as one too many and very saddened. He noted that given the past experiences of such occurrence at the same axis, the precautionary measures already taken on such as well as the unparalleled attention Governor Akeredolu has given to Owo-Ikare Road since coming to power, such accident ought not to have occurred there again. He was particularly irked by the number of students who were said to be victims of the accident. He none-the-less prayed that God would grant their families the fortitudes to bear the irreparable loss.
Asked what he thought should be the permanent solution to the re-occurring accident, the ex-aide to Agagu noted that “there should be a wholesome approach to this challenge as a life preserved is worth more than anything in this world. The should constructi an ALTERNATIVE ROAD FROM OBA AKOKO TO IKUN, IPE AND ISUA AKOKO -the road which has been abandoned for over ten(10) years now.
The entire terrain of the Oba-Ikun-Ipe-Isua road axis is on a very plain ground devoid of any hill or mountain. If constructed, it will just take about 20 minutes pleasure drive from Oba Akoko to Isua : the boundary of Ondo/Edo state.
He further noted that “This was what late Dr. Agagu did when he constructed the Okitipupa-Irele road. Ever before that time, the Ikale and part of Ilaje people must have to travel through Okitipupa and Aaye communities to Ore before crawling to Irele, a journey that would take nothing less than one(1) hour. But with the construction of Okitipupa-Irele road, the journey now takes about ten(10) minutes”.
“Given the massive support the Governor received at his 2020 re-election bid from the Akoko communities and Arakunrin’s personal disposition as a trailblazer, I wish to appeal to the Governor to construct a Grade A dua – carriage road from Oba Akoko through Ikun and Ipe to Isua, which will make the journey less than twenty (20) minutes. Surely, the road will become the easiest access from the State to the North and Akoko people will never forget him”.
Reminded of the dwindling resources at the disposal of the State Government, Oladare Amuda opined that “Governor Akeredolu is a good manager of resources, if not, all these on-going construction works at the State Capital and many other areas in the State would have been stopped long ago. Let him just say Yes, he will do it. I do not know how”.
“The road when constructed could made a veritable source of revenue to the state Government given the heavy vehicular movement expected to be associated with its construction. A Toll-Gate could be built by State Government between Ikun and Ipe, and vehicle owners/drivers will be more than happy to pay N100.00, N200.00, etc. to pass through such good road within a short period of time without stress” he concluded.
