AAUA Pledges Support for Cooperative Societies
The Management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, will continue to support the aspirations of all Staff Cooperative Societies in the Institution towards helping them attain their objectives.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige made this promise while speaking as Guest of Honour at the 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Academic Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society held in Akungba on Tuesday, 3rd November, 2020.
Represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Benson Akinnawonu, the Vice Chancellor noted that Cooperative Societies play critical roles in the material and general welfare of members, and thus the University would continue to support them to do more.
Prof. Ige said, “I congratulate and appreciate the Society for its commitment, prudence and understanding with the Management so far. The challenge posed by non-release of deductions is not deliberate, as the University is not leaving any stone unturned towards resolving this problem. And I am optimistic that by the grace of God, we will all have reasons to smile very soon.”
He urged the Executives of the Society to sustain the regime of transparency and accountability attested to by cooperators. He further commended the Dr. Adedayo Afe-led Executive Committee for the various important roles played by the Society to ameliorate the challenges faced by members during the COVID-19 lockdown.
In his remark, the President of the Society, Dr. Adedayo Afe, explained that AGM is an occasion for the Executive Committee to render the account of its stewardship for the last financial year, and for members to assess its performance in the financial year under review.
He said that the Society was able to maintain a healthy status and meet all its obligations to members despite unforeseen challenges occasioned by the economic crunch caused by the Corona Virus pandemic and its attendant lockdown. He commended members for fulfilling their own part of the bargain by paying their dues promptly.
Present at the ceremony were the representative of the Bursar, Mr. Adewumi Orina; Dean of Students, Dr. Olusegun Owolewa; Deans, Professors, and other top officers of the University. Other guests included the representatives of the Ondo State Ministry of Cooperatives, and other partners like the President of the Senior Staff Cooperative Society, and the Manager of Access Bank, Akungba Branch.
