PRESS STATEMENT
RE: RESPONSE TO THE PURPORTED PRESS RELEASE AGAINST THE OYO STATE CHAIRMAN OF THE NIGERIA DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC), PRINCESS OYERONKE AKINLOLU.
The attention of the Oyo State Executive Committee and the 33 Local Government Chairmen of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Oyo State Chapter, has been drawn to a publication alleging abuse of office, anti-party conduct and other unfounded accusations against the State Chairman, Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu.
Ordinarily, baseless allegations and politically motivated propaganda do not deserve a response. However, in order to set the records straight and reassure our members, supporters and the general public, we consider it necessary to address the issues raised.
The allegations contained in the press release are false, malicious, misleading and are clearly calculated to tarnish the image of the State Chairman and destabilize the growing fortunes of our party in Oyo State.
Under the leadership of Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu, the NDC in Oyo State has witnessed unprecedented expansion across the 33 Local Government Areas. Membership has continued to grow, party structures have become stronger, and the party has remained focused on providing a credible alternative for the people of Oyo State.
It is therefore unfortunate that at a time when the party is making remarkable progress, certain individuals whose personal ambitions have not been realised have resorted to sponsoring petitions and media campaigns aimed at creating unnecessary distractions.
The person who authored the press release, Engr. Steve Oshiariyo, is acting out of personal grievances rather than genuine concern for the progress of the party. His actions appear to be a deliberate attempt to scuttle the unity, stability and rapid growth of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Oyo State.
Internal party matters should not be weaponised through sensational media campaigns intended to mislead the public.
We categorically deny the allegations of abuse of office, anti-party activities, arbitrary leadership and bias against members. Decisions of the State Executive Committee are taken collectively in accordance with the Constitution of the party and the resolutions of the appropriate organs.
Where disciplinary measures are taken against members, they are based on the provisions of the party’s Constitution and not on personal considerations.
The Oyo State Executive Committee and the 33 Local Government Chairmen reaffirm our implicit confidence in the leadership of Princess.Oyeronke Akinlolu. Her commitment, dedication, sacrifice and unwavering resolve have continued to strengthen the party and inspire members across the state.
We therefore urge the National Leadership of the party, members and the general public to disregard the allegations contained in the said press release as they are nothing more than an attempt to create division where none exists.
Our collective focus remains the continued growth of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, internal democracy, party discipline and the attainment of electoral success in future elections.
We remain united, focused and committed to building a stronger NDC for the benefit of all members and the people of Oyo State.
