Abuja, Nigeria – October 2, 2025
It was an inspiring display of courage, intellect, and determination on Thursday as My Hero Community Development Initiative (MHCDI) hosted its annual spelling competition at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja. The event brought together nine secondary schools and over 200 participants, making it one of the most vibrant educational gatherings in the FCT this year.
Participating schools included JSS Garki Area 10, JSS Wuse Zone 3, JSS Kado Kuchi, JSS Gwarinpa, JSS Garki II, and JSS Jabi, among others. The competition served not only as a test of spelling ability but also as a platform for students to showcase confidence, mental alertness, and eloquence.
At the end of several intense rounds, the following winners emerged:
First Runner-Up: Oluwasina Eridodooluwa Eunice from JSS Garki Area 10
Second Runner-Up: Agwara C. David from JSS Wuse Zone 3
Third Runner-Up: Omojola Zion Akorede from JSS Kado Kuchi
One of the defining moments of the event came with the inspiring reminder that:
“Every word you spell right today is a step toward the future you’re building. Focus, believe, and let your voice carry your brilliance.”
Speaking at the event, organizers Mrs. Damilola Fabolu and Mr. Chris Olusa emphasized the importance of nurturing literacy and self-confidence in young Nigerians. They noted that competitions like this go beyond spelling, as they instill life skills such as perseverance, discipline, and public speaking.
The atmosphere at Merit House was filled with excitement, cheers, and applause as the students rose to the challenge, proving that “every letter counts.” The event underscored MHCDI’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and building a brighter future for the next generation.
