Some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Akure, Ondo State, have allegedly been attacked by suspected thugs allegedly sponsored by the Chairman of the Union, Mr Jacob Adebo Idajo, killing one Ademola Ademoyegun Shina and rendering Adeyemi Samuel Ojuyobo and Akinyemi Bayo injured in the process.
They were allegedly attacked at Ola Garage in Akure, the state capital on the early hour of Tuesday.
The groups were reportedly summoned by the National Chairman of the group, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa and the Zonal Chairman, Olamilekan Salami to Osogbo on Monday broker peace within the two rivalry groups but the meeting ended in deadlock.
However, Alhaji Salami was said to have instructed the former Ondo NURTW Chairman, Mr. Jacob Adebo Idajo to put the Ondo Chapter of the Union in order and allow the rivary group to resume operation at the garage the following day. But the rivalry group said they were attacked again upon resumption at the garage on Tuesday morning, lynching any of its members on sight.
Toyin Olaoye Fayagbe, one of the leaders of the rivary group said “some of us were still at home this morning when our members called that they were been beaten at the park once they are identified as one of the delegations to Osogbo meeting. It was in the process that a group of armed thugs numbering about thirty approached the park and opened fire on them, killing one and leaving two injured”
As at the time of filing this report, the group has matched to the palace of Deji of Akure to express their grievances.
