Self-styled Moslem Clerics Dupe, Rape Female Victim .
Three able-bodied men, who hid under the guise of being clerics to defraud undiscerning minds, have bitten more than they could chew and are currently in police net.
The suspects, Aliu Abdulfatai, 50, Sule Adebayo, 36 and Lekan Olokodana, 31, all self-professed Moslem clerics, did not stop at swindling their female victim; one of them went as far as forcefully having carnal knowledge of her.
The bubble burst on them on Monday, September 16, 2019 when operatives of Adigbe Police Station in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, acted on the complaint of the victim, who claimed she lost the sum of N70, 000 to them.
According to a press release made available to our reporter, the Police Spokespersons in Ogun State Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “The complainant, a marketer with a popular Property/Real Estate company was said to be on a marketing assignment when she came across the suspects who claimed to be Islamic clerics, and indicated interests to purchase a large expanse of land for the construction of their mosque.
“Lo and behold, the scenario took another dimension when the fraudulent and randy ‘men of God’ claimed they saw in their vision that the lady was under one form of spell and another, which required a special deliverance prayer”.
The victim, it was gathered, swallowed the tricksters’ bait hook, line and sinker and coughed out N70, 000, having been lured into their house, where one of them sexually assaulted her.
“On the strength of her complaint, the DPO Adigbe Division, CSP Augustine Oladele, detailed his detectives to go after the hoodlums and bring them to justice. Their efforts paid off when three amongst them were apprehended while waiting for the victim to bring money they demanded for. One of them escaped in the process.
“On interrogation, they confessed being fraudsters and that, that had been their means of livelihood. It was also revealed that one of them has a personal building in Ikorodu, Lagos State, erected with proceeds from their criminal activities”, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bashir Makama, had ordered a full scale investigation into the activities of the hoodlums with the view to charge them to court as soon as possible.
