The rank of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Ondo State chapter witness an increase as hundreds of APC, ZL and ADC members have decamped to the party. The decampees were received by the State Party Chairman, Engr. Clement Faboyede at the State party secretariat, Alagbaka, Akure on Tuesday.
While addressing the decampees,
Faboyede told them that they have come to the right party where their desires would be met. He also assured that all gubernatorial aspirants of the party are prepared to work together for the sole aim of dislodging Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from Alagbaka Governor’s office come next year.
According to Faboyede, ” It is without doubt that the people of Ondo State are itching for a change come year 2020. I am prepared in my capacity as an unbiased Party Chairman to midwife a credible process that will produce a quality and popular governorship candidate that will not only be acceptable to PDP members, but also to the good people of Ondo State”.
In the remarks of the South West Vice Chairman of the party, who is also a governorship aspirant, Chief Eddy Olafeso, he allayed fears that the broad day light electoral fraud that recently happened in Kogi State cannot happen in Ondo State.
He said the people of Ondo State are ready for a change and they are undoubtedly determined to effect the change by voting out Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in next year’s gubernatorial election.
Also, another governorship aspirant of the PDP, Hon. Banji Okuomo agreed with the position of Eddy Olafeso that the electoral sleaze that was recently perpetrated in Kogi State could not be repeated in Ondo State. “This is Ondo State and not Kogi. There is far more awareness here and the people here are more savvy politically. The indices are totally different and I can assure that the shameful act of electoral thievery that took place in Kogi cannot be replicated here in Ondo State come next year”.
Meanwhile, another gubernatorial aspirant of the party and a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede has expressed optimism that all the gubernatorial aspirants of the PDP deserve to be governor. He however counselled the aspirants on the need to work together and present a common front. “I am impressed with the array of gubernatorial aspirants in the PDP. All the aspirants truly deserve to be governor. The number of decampees here today simply lend credence to the soaring popularity of the party in Ondo State. But, there is need for us to work together and dislodge Akeredolu from the Alagbaka Government House”, added Jegede.
