The Allied Peoples Movement ( APM), has raised questions on the state’s third quaternary 2023 budget performance report which are alarming especially on priorities and fiscal resonsibilities of the state government.
This is contained in a statement issued by the chairman of the party, Hon. Wale Adebayo and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Adebayo who also doubles as Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), said the party strongly condemns the wasteful spending of over N6 billion on the Governor, adding that the amount was in addition to the N209 million spent on personal expenses in the governor’s office, further highlighting the blatant misuse of public funds .
He said that such colossal sums of money have been spent in a state where per capita income is extremely low rather than utilizing such funds to addressing pressing issues such as poverty alleviation, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development.
” The breakdown of expenses, particularly the N2 billion spent on refreshment/meals and welfare packages for officials, raises serious questions about the accountability and transparency of the Osun State government.
” It is unjustifiable to spend such massive amounts on non-essential items while the people of Osun State continue to suffer from economic hardship and lack of basic amenities.
According to him , the budget performance report raises concerns about the overall financial management and resource allocation in the state.
” It is imperative that the government explains the rationale behind these excessive expenditures and justifies the value derived from such significant investments.
” The people of Osun State deserve a government that prioritizes their welfare and demands fiscal prudence.”
Adebayo however said it was the duty of stakeholders concerns to expose and condemn in totality such wasteful practices to ensure a responsible and accountable government.
