Ondo Women Are Unfairly Marginalized, Says Ajunigbode
A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Ondo State, Chief Yemi Ajunigbode has decried the marginalization of women in Ondo state politics. She said the poor treatment of women when it comes to elective positions has gotten to an acceptable level in Ondo state. Ajunigbode said this in an interview on Saturday in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Yeye Ajunigbode as she is known in the political circles said women have been completely sidelined to a point that no woman is in Ondo State Executive. According to her, “We only have one woman elect in Ondo State House of Assembly. No woman is elected in the state as member of National Assembly. The worse of it is that there is no woman in the Executive of Ondo State. The former Commissioner for Women Affairs resigned to contest for an elective post and she could not make in the election”.
She went ahead to draw contrast between Ondo state and Ekiti state which has four women elect as members of Ekiti House of Assembly and one woman elect as member House of House of Representatives. Yeye Ajunigbode also said treatment of woman in states like Lagos and Osun has been quite encouraging unlike what obtains in Ondo state. She further said, ” It is not impossible for women to form their own political party. After all, women has 65% voting strength and can use this to their own advantage. But, we are not going to that”.
She however appealed to Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to consider women for better positions in governance so as to move the state forward. Meanwhile, Yeye Ajunigbode has also decried the state of insecurity in Akoko area of Ondo state. She particularly expressed worry with the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery and ritual killings being targeted against women in Akoko land in particular and Ondo state at large.
In the same vein, Ajunigbode has appealed to Governor Akeredolu to do the needful by addressing the spate of insecurity in the state for women to breath a sigh of relief.
