Ondo 2020: What is Mimiko and Gboye Adegbenro up to
Immediate past Governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, no doubt, remains a formidable force to reckon with as far as local politics in the state is concerned.
He may be out of power and in a party with relative low national popularity, one thing you cannot take away from him is that he’s a political strategist who still enjoys the goodwill of the people at the grassroots.
Many observers have been guessing and sniffing around to scoop out information around the Ondo city home of the ZLP National Leader to know his position on the forthcoming governorship election.
Would he be collapsing his structure for the two major parties or will he field a candidate under ZLP? He leaves many guessing as usual.
Triangle Magazine has reliably gathered that ZLP would be on the ballot and prominent among the names being touted to be the party’s candidate is no other than Engineer Gboye Adegbenro.
A reliable source close to the former governor hinted Triangle that the former commissioner for works, competent, young and brilliant may fly the flag of ZLP in the election.
“Plans and strategies are currently being hatched by the ZLP leaders to make the announcement soon,” the source said
It is, however, not clear if Adegbenro, who many had thought would be the ZLP central senatorial candidate in the 2019 election is interested in the Alagbaka job.
With the emergence of Hon Joseph Akinlaja, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, as the State chairman of ZLP last week, it seems the party is gradually setting machinery in motion for the coming election.
