Thousands of Social Democratic Party (SDP) members in Aiyede OGBESE, the commercial hub of Akure North Local government on Monday switched allegiance to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The leaders and members of the SDP in Aiyede Ogbese ward 5, dumped the party, endorsing the second term aspiration of the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Mr lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Leader of the SDP in the community Princess Oluyede and other top members of the party said it became necessary to follow Governor Akeredolu owing to the fact that they want to continually be part of the governors’ achievements.
Oluyede who is also the candidate of SDP in the just concluded local government election in the state said they left SDP for APC due to the achievement of Akeredolu and they want to be part of his team to take Ondo state to a greater place
According to her “We cannot leave Akeredolu with what he has done for us as a community; the first water revolution (KAMOMI AKETI) was first piloted in our community, Commercial activities are gradually going higher. We are not only commercial hub of Akure North local government but to the all local governments around us. there is work for our teaming youth; no space for idleness anymore.”
Also, Oluyede said she decided to lead thousands of her supporters who are majorly artisans, traders and farmers to the APC to support the governor because of his developmental agenda for the larger Ondo people against the few individuals who continue to strive for personal benefits rather than the good of the larger majority of the people.
“You can see what good governance can do for people. I have led thousands of my supporters to join the governor in the APC . We are not fighting for stomach infrastructure but the dividends of democracy that will lead to a better Ondo State; anywhere Akeredolu goes, we will go”, she added.
Although some of the defectors said they prefer to be with SDP before due to the way they were treated by the leaders of APC in the local government but they changed their mind because of the intervention of chief Alex Ajipe whom they described as a faithful leader they can trust.
“We are moving to APC for two reasons, number one is due to the achievement of Mr governor and also due to the intervention of chief Alex Ajipe. He is a good man to us. He is tested and trusted and a good leader to follow. If we should go with how the APC leaders in this local government treated us, we will prefer to stay in our party but for the sake of the governor and chief Ajipe whom we believe have good things for us and our community, we will work for the victory of Arakunrin Akeredolu “. Mrs Akorede one of the defectors said.
In his response while receiving the defectors to APC , the convener of IBI GIGA AMBASSADORS CHIEF Alex Ajipe welcomed them to the new party, urging them not to relent in their quest for good governance.
