ONDO 2020: PDP CHIEFTAINS ADVOCATES FOR PEACEFUL ELECTION
Discussing the victory of the Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party at the just concluded governorship election in Edo State, Mr Benson Enikuomehin a PDP Chieftain has stated that the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki in Ondo State is a testament of the popular choice and yearning of the people to seek a government of their own.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS, The PDP Chieftain attributed the victory of the Party in Ondo State to the strong stand of the people at rejecting every iota of Godfatherism in the state, he also attributed the victory to the strong effort of the Party which it channeled towards winning the gubernatorial election in Ondo State. He also praised the governor re-elected, Godwin Obaseki for standing tall and unshaken in his poise and determination to advancing good governance in the state by eliminating every factors mitigating against it.
According to him, ”the success of the party at the just concluded election in Edo State must be attributed to the people who were able to marshal every other factors responsible for the victory”
While congratulating the people of Edo State and the People’s Democratic Party in the State, the Party Chieftain however warned that the Party must not allow itself to be carried away with the euphoria of their victory in Edo State, explaining that there’s still much to be done. According to him the people massively voted for Governor Godwin Obaseki because the People believed in him to effect good governance in the State, the party must ensured that the people are not disappointed as it must do all within its powers to bring about the continual advancement of the State .
Also in his response to one of the anchors of the program on the role of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just concluded election, he stated that the recent criticism of the people and other body against the body was one of those factors that was responsible for the impressive role of the body during the election. He explained that Prof. Attahiru Jega had laid a good template which must be consolidated on by the current chairman of the Commission Prof. Mahmud
Also responding to the implications of the outcome of the Edo Gubernatorial Election on the Ondo Gubernatorial Election which is scheduled for October 10,2020. Mr. Enikuomehinstated that the People of Ondo State yearn for good governanceand in times past they have portrayed themselves to vote candidates based on good governance irrespective of political affiliation or preferences. He also added that the expectations that came with the Akeredolu led administration was very high,but however its rather sad that what we have on ground in the State does not justify these expectations.
He explained the PDP in the light of its recent victory in Edo State which saw it win against the odds is ready to consolidate on this by ensuring that the will of the people of Ondo State is granted. He revealed that the Party Flag bearer in the October 10 Gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede.SAN is ready and committed to effecting the long awaited change which the Akeredolu led administration has failed to effect. According to him elections should be more about the voice and the decision of the people to elect their preferred candidate and this must be respected by the political parties and all other involving stakeholders.
Expressing his optimism in the forth coming election in the State, the party chieftain stated that the outcome of Edo election is a proof that a free and fair electoral process is possible in Nigeria and all hands must be on deck to ensure that this is also achieved in Ondo State
He added that the Party has a strong foothold in the State and that they are poised for victory in the forth coming election in the State. He however added that the Party will not congratulate the incumbent if re-elected on the bases of electoral violence and manipulation. He enjoined the all the major State holders involved to give the right atmosphere needed for a peaceful and tranquil election in Ondo State
