…reiterates commitment to renewal energy in Nigeria
The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Ondo State Chapter has unveiled its plans for its annual Engineering Week which started on Monday.
According to the Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the NSE, Engr. Ezekiel Oloruntola, FNSE MNICE stated that the focus of the 2022 annual Engineering Week is, “Oil and Oil Alternative mix for Energy Sustainability in a developing nation”
While unveiling the theme for the week long Annual Engineering Week, he explained that the over reliance on fossil fuel is threatening the earth’s climate which requires urgent attention.
“Statistics have shown that over 60% – 70% of the Nigerian population does not have access to electricity and globally, more than 2 billion people still lack access to basic Energy service, we are advocating for clean energy as alternative to fossil fuel as source of Energy. Clean Energy from water, wind and solar are very accessible and environmental friendly
“In our opinion, there is need for a legal framework on renewable Energy and encouragement of stricz implementation of energy regulatory strategies and policies with incentives for the application of renewable energy sources in Nigeria.” he stated.
He also highlighted the various events lined up for the NSE week in Ondo State.
“The programme line up for the week includes a health walk on Tuesday by 7 in the morning we have games to be competed for among divisions of NSE, Ayo, Chess, Ludo, and Table Tennis. Price will be given to winners during our Award Night.
“There will be public lecture on Wednesday 24th August on “Employing Engineering Approach to improving Existing systems for local production. A paper on this will be delivered by Engr. Professor (Oba) Adebisi Akinola of the mechanical Engineering Department, Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Akure.
“The Branch’s Annual General Meeting, where the outgoing executive rendered the account of it’s Stewardship comes up on Thursday 25th August. A general election of new executive come up same Day.
“On Friday 26 August we have JUMAT service at the central mosques, Akure to Appreciate God for the year there will also be a program for young Engineers same day
“The grand finale comes up on Saturday 27th August. Award will be presented to deserving individual and corporate bodies at the event. While a thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday 28th August at the mountain of Fire and miracle Ministries, south west 4 regionals headquarter, Akure.” He stated.
He also revealed that the Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mines, Engr. Razak Obe FIP would also be available to deliver a lecture at the Dinner and Award Night on Saturday 28th August, 2022.
