In a move underscoring the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to strengthening internal security and emergency response systems, the Minister of Interior on Tuesday paid an unscheduled visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command and the Federal Fire Service Station in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.
The surprise inspection, according to the Minister, was aimed at obtaining an unfiltered, on-the-spot assessment of existing facilities, operational readiness, and the overall preparedness of officers who are often the first responders in crises that emerge without warning.
The visit comes less than 24 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) issued a strong directive in his national address, urging all security and paramilitary agencies to intensify efforts in safeguarding the nation. The President emphasized that ensuring the safety of every Nigerian remains a collective obligation.
“Security is life,” the Minister said during the inspection, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security and protecting critical national assets. “Mr President is trusting our officers to deliver on the issue of internal security, and I believe they will deliver so that we can all be proud of Nigeria and continue to call this great country our home.”
He noted that the essence of the unscheduled visit was to see things “the way they are,” without the embellishment that often accompanies prior notice. The Minister emphasized that Nigerians deserve nothing short of excellence from agencies under the Interior Ministry.
“For me, I want to see the sort of service that Nigerians are getting across all our agencies because, like I always say, a good service is not good enough for Nigerians — only the best is acceptable,” he said.
The Minister also announced that similar unannounced assessments would continue nationwide as part of ongoing reforms to enhance transparency, boost morale, and drive operational efficiency across paramilitary commands.
Officers at both the NSCDC and the Federal Fire Service expressed readiness to respond to emergencies, pledging continued professionalism in executing their mandates.
As Nigeria navigates evolving security challenges, the Interior Ministry’s renewed hands-on approach signals a stronger enforcement of accountability and a push toward more reliable, citizen-centered public safety services.
