Gunmen emerge from hiding, shoot Zamfara poly workers dead

TWO employees of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura-Namoda in Zamfara State, were shot dead in their residents by gunmen.
The affected workers were Usman Nazifi, 37; and Bashiru Muhammad, 39, who were residing at the low cost housing estate in Kaura-Namoda.
A resident of the area, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaura, said the gunmen stormed Nazifi’s house and asked him to open his room, but he refused and began to shout, calling for help.
According to him, the gunmen withdrew and hid in an uncomplicated building within the area.

He said, “When the deceased, Nafizi, realised that the gunmen might have gone away, he opened his door and called his neighbor Mohammad to tell him about the incident, not knowing that the assailants were hiding in an uncompleted building.
“As they were discussing the issue, the gunmen came out of their hiding place and opened fire on them, killing them on the spot.”
Confirming the incident, the Rector of the institution, Alhaji Yahaya Bande, described the attack as unfortunate, barbaric and condemnable.
The deceased have been buried according to Islamic rites.

Efforts to get comments from the Spokesperson for the Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, failed as he could not be reached on the phone.

Meanwhile, the District Head of Boko in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Na,umma, who was kidnapped by bandits several months ago have been released.
Also released by the bandits were the serving councillor in charge of Boko Ward, Alhaji Zubairu Boko, the PDP Chairman of Boko Ward, Alhaji Abubakar Baba, and an APC Exco member of Boko Ward.

Addressing journalists in Gusau, Governor Bello Matawalle said the victims were in captivity for about seven months, explaining that they were released unconditionally based on his administration’s peace process.
Meanwhile, the District Head, Na,umma told The PUNCH that he and the other three persons were abducted by bandits in Boko and were told to pay the sum of N50m ransom.
He further said, “We have completely lost hope and resorted to prayers for God’s intervention when suddenly, we were told by the bandits that they would release us because the state government has seen them.”
