Nigerian women are seriously battling with grinding poverty as this assertion was once confirmed with the publication of Washington based Seattle magazine. The media outfit described Nigeria as the poverty capital of the world because the nation contains the largest rate of people living in extreme poverty. As a matter of fact, not less than about 86.9 million people, majority of which are women live in severe poverty and this statistics translates to 50% of the nation’s entire population.
In a situation of grinding poverty that is plaguing mostly Nigerian women, a Non-Governmental, Everest H.M Foundation has arisen to redefine this hopeless narrative for the women. The foundation founder is Akwa-Ibom born Emem Everest, who is wired with a heart of gold and has done a whole lot to lift women out of poverty.
Pitiable circumstances of women within and outside of the immediate environment of Emem Everest was what triggered her altruistic assistance for the downtrodden. She thought it important to dip hands into her hard earned resources to rescue women from different constraints, ranging from finance to heath and material.
The founder of Everest H.M Foundation is continuously bothered by the fact that women have been unfairly relegated in the political and socio-economic make- up of Nigerian nation. Emem Everest is equally concerned that the men’s folks prefer to seek self interests by using women as their political tools that are later abandoned after the conduct of elections.
Meanwhile, Everest H.M has since taken the center stage of carrying out regular empowerment and liberation of women from the firm grip of lack, want, poverty and diseases. This non-governmental organization is basically focused on helping women to become better versions of themselves within their immediate societies.
The fact that poverty is a common place in the environment of Mrs Emem Everest cannot be argued. She also grew up to see raw display of poverty by her people, especially the women and this
inspired her to be of help to the
less privileged at a young age.
The Bachelor of Arts holder in Communication Arts from the University of Uyo had earlier served
as the Chief Executive Officer of Elrich Synergy Limited. She once said, “The only thing I want now is wealth. I want to touch lives and I need money to sort out financial problems for people. With good money, kids would be off the streets and be in schools, families will also have sustainable businesses”.
Over the years, Everest H.M Foundation has stayed committed to ensuring that that women are not ridiculed and undermined in the society. Emem Everest has also been using her resources to engage women and to ensure that they become wealth creators.
Impact of the foundation of this woman with a heart of gold has been felt in many communities of Akwa-Ibom State. When the foundation launched Project Rural Women Fund at Mbiabong Ikono in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, the community head, Eteidung Ben expressed excitement with the empowerment programme carried out by Everest H.M Foundation.
The foundation has also taken to providing medical care services for indigent women in the rural areas over the years. Several hopeless and disillusioned women
in the rural areas of Akwa-Ibom State have had their tears wiped away through the philanthropic gesture of Emem Everest. Material assistance like food items, clothing, household goods and cash gifts have so far been extended to Akwa-Ibom women through Everest H.M Foundation.
Similarly, the foundation has also been giving practical training to women on entrepreneurial skills that will ultimately make them employers of labour and wealth creators. This kindhearted woman has definitely etched her name in the sand of time through her hand of assistance so far extended to economically disadvantaged women. Everest is sure far from being worn out, as she is still rearing to lift up a lot more women out of lack and poverty.
