Ondo State Gubernatorial election has been done, and a winner has emerged as the Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN and his running mate Lucky Aiyedatiwa rides to a massive victory.
Analysing the outcome of the Ondo Gubernatorial election there are various factors which contributed to the victory of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN and the failure of the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Eyitayo Jegede SAN.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) not just riding on the luxury that comes with Federal Power ensured that it put it house in order. Ever since the conduct of the party’s primary election, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN ensured that it consolidated on this win by creating a united party.
Warring and dissatisfied members of the party were appeased while all other aspirants at the primaries collapsed their structure as they all declared their support for Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN.
Adding to this, All Progressive Congress (APC) ensured adequate mobilization of their supporters right from the units to the state level.
Adding to the aforementioned, the activities of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN across the 18 local government areas sold him well to the people.
Within the space of three and a half years, the state has seen a massive infrastructural and industrial revolution across it’s 3 senatorial district; the clearing of the outstanding 7month salaries owed by the previous administration in the State, the prompt payment of subsequent Salaries as well as other projects and Initiatives in the state made Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN a sellable candidate.
For the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, it’s the expectation of many that his party will build on its victory in the Edo State Gubernatorial election to facilitate its victory in Ondo State.
Against the run of play, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) made several decision which later marred its chances at wining.
Following the Party’s Primary which saw to the exit of Agboola Ajayi who later became the candidate of the Zenith Labor Party; there was an obvious division in the party rank.
Many of the party bigwigs at the state and national level were obviously not happy over the choice of the running mate picked by Eyitayo Jegede SAN as many opined that he should have picked a more politically stronger candidate.
Also the inability of the party to properly mobilise its Members across the 18 local government areas of the state negated it chances of emerging victorious.
The Ondo State Gubernitorial election might have come and gone, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has won which is a testament of the will of the electorate, however there are few positives for the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party Eyitayo Jegede SAN.
His victory in Akure, the state capital is a proof that he is well loved and accepted by his people. It’s the hope of the people that he and his party learns from this to preparing itself for subsequent election in Ondo State.
Accolades to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for facilitating the conduct of a peaceful, free and fair election in Ondo State.
It was a relatively peaceful poll across the 18 local governments of the state. We appreciate the electoral body and we wish they build on this for subsequent elections.
